I am opening one thread to cover Davis Cup for 2009.
Marat has announced his intention to play Davis Cup v Romania and as Davydenko is still recovering from injury and Misha Youzhny is having a big dip in form at the moment it would seem he will be in the team but of course that is up to Shamil Tarpischev.
Please use this thread for all information/news related to Russia's matches for Davis Cup in 2009.
Thank You

Thanks, Webby !

And, thank you for updates on the main page - glad to hear that Marat had good time celebrating his B-Day, and happy that he will be a direct entrance into many tournaments now..and that he wants to play for Russia in Davis Cup !!

That would be crazy of Tarpishev not to put Marat on a team :)
This is probably the last time Marat plays in Davis Cup, and he is in much much better form than Youzhny or Dima Tursunov...

I so regret the fact that I won't be able to go see Russia vs. Romania. Not much to be done about it though.

Oh, thanks for the thread and for the info, webby!
In my opinion Marat will be of great help to the Russian team if we have in mind the not so good condition that are Mischa and Nikolay.. but it's Tarpishchev decision and we'll wait and see.

I really hope I can find tickets for the tie in Romania and get to watch Marat play live =)

By the way, as far as I know, the Davis Cup matches will be held in Sibiu, not Brasov.

Also, there are some financial troubles at the Romanian Tennis Federation, don't know to which degree these may infuence the DC.

now - only Davydenko & Andreev, but Tarpishev never really paid attention to ranking, especially when he put Marat to play Berdych in a 1st rubber, and Marat was #67 (or something like that) at that time...

from sovsport.ru

Tarpishev said that it was decided from a beginning that Davydenko will not play in Davis Cup against Romania, especially now with his injury..

Here's the players he named to play this tie so far:

Marat Safin
Dima Tursunov
Mikhail Youzhny
T. Gabashvilli

'so far' because we all know how Tarpishev is - he keeps everyone guessing until the end..:)

Davydenko to miss Russia’s Davis Cup showdown

MOSCOW: Russia’s skipper Shamil Tarpishchev said on Thursday that Nikolay Davydenko would definitely miss Russia’s Davis Cup first round clash at Romania on March 6-8. Tarpishchev said that Russia’s tennis icon Marat Safin and Mikhail Youzhny would spearhead Russia in the match at Sibiu, Romania. Dmitry Tursunov and Teimuraz Gabashvili were also included in the squad. Tarpishchev, who is also Russian Fed Cup skipper, said that Elena Dementieva would miss the Fed Cup semifinal with Italy on April 25-26 adding that he decided to include Vera Zvonareva into his Fed Cup squad, adding that he would finalise his team’s other players later.

Great to have Marat spear-heading Russia's Team at the DAVIS CUP!

Hope Marat is right in the team and there are no changes made by Mr Tarpishchev ! :D

DAVIS CUP website official nominations are confirmed and Marats pic is right up there leading the pack of The Russian Players. Hopefully they succeed winning this!!

Dont know if Teimuras Gabashvili fits the bill.

If i may- Sibiu is about 600 km slightly north-west of Bucharest , capital city of Romania. Looks like an enchanting
provincial old European city with nice architecture dating to the 10 th century. Promenades and catherdrals and lazy parks

enjoy your stay there. Marat!! :D
