Marat,

I guess on the bright side, even if you had won, it still would have been a tragedy, according to Socrates:
"Life contains but two tragedies. One is not to get your heart's desire; the other is to get it." Go Figure!!!

Ralph Waldo Emerson, on the other hand has a more optimistic view  :
"For everything you have missed, you have gained something else, and for everything you gain, you lose something else."

And then there's Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's beautiful psalm:
A PSALM OF LIFE
WHAT THE HEART OF THE YOUNG MAN SAID TO THE PSALMIST

TELL me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream ! —
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real ! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal ;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way ;
But to act, that each to-morrow
Find us farther than to-day.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world's broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle !
Be a hero in the strife !

Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant !
Let the dead Past bury its dead !
Act,— act in the living Present !
Heart within, and God o'erhead !

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time ;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate ;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.

P.S. I hope this is enough soul food for today.

YOUR YOUNG RICH AND BEAUTIFUL, maybe your right and you should take the six months off that you suggested, but lets see, you have booked
Argentina december exho with luis lobo
looks like ARGENTINA Dec 17-20th
Hong kong January 6-7th
whats going on Marat??
Your young rich and beautiful maybe you need to take the six months off to love your tennis again as you have said, enjoy life and let us except the tennis lost, your tennis has been a big part of all are lives
and we must all try to full that space now...
its time for you to say what you mean and do what you say,
to have you within days of retirement book so many events suggest that you don't mean what you say,
are you really whining down?
your young rich and beatuful don't be afraid to let go and enjoy,if you don't then you should give us what we need no more guessing games, we shouldn't have to surf the net to find out whats going on,
i know you have more respect then that for us...
just mean what you say and do what you say, let go so we can let you go!
and what joys i'm sure are out there for you!

Marat,

It has all come down to this last tournament. I wish you all the best!!!

I hope that you would try to put aside all pressure and craziness and will give it your best. Winning or losing don't matter, the score doesn't matter, just be in the match and hang on and keep trying. Regardless of what happens in this tournament, you have already achieved so much and seem to have grown a lot as a person and the personal growth is more important than any trophy. You have transformed yourself from the Boy/Guy from Russia to the Man from Russia.

Here are also a song and a movie clip that go along with what the message above and then I am going to cheer for you quietly like so many other people from far away and let you show us your magic. But we will all be with you in spirit!

Hi Marat,

thank you for all that games and shows you gave to all of us. Thank you for each moment on the court, for every smile, for everything. When you lost in St. Petersburg my 11 years old son was crying. He also plays tennis and you are his best hero. He said : ,, If I was that Ukrainenean player I would never let to Marat lose in his last game.,,
However, life`s go on. We wish only the best for you. In our hearts you will always have the special place and we will always remember you. We hope you are stay somewhere around the tennis.
Best wishes and kind regards, Tanya. :D

Marat,

In case you are reading this thread, many apologies for double posting, which seems redundant, but at the request made by a very active forum member, I had to post a translation into English of my greetings and message to you for those who may be having a problem with French. Trusting this is not the case! Oh, c'est la vie! Should not be the case, actually, as French is widely spoken not only in France and Canada but also in many Francophone countries. Plus, Paris is magical, and French is a beautiful tuneful language! In any event, hoping that the words in both French and English, along with other Slavic, Romance, Germanic, Asian, and Indo-European languages, etcetera, all with compelling melodies, spoken and written here and elsewhere reach you!

Hello Marat:

Good luck and my best wishes for Bercy! Have a fantastic stay and enjoy yourself in Paris!

Thank you very much for your natural talent and a very beautiful tennis play! :)

Congratulations Marat

It was a thriller - and you held on altho you seemed annoyed
by some of the unforced errors which
to me was a bit unusual , still it was a valiant great effort...

Dont worry about it. believe me you CAN beat
your next opponent

Think of your self and relax and what a great
joy to see you in action...

Nice call from my Dad and he was really happyyy..

Take care, rest well and WE look forward to your next match
whoever it maybe

Congratulations again> Classic Marat Safin

WE are with you ....

Hi Marat...

Del Potro..??

Just be calm. He might be nervous more than we know..Hes not 100 % fit too.
he ll try to show off his long winded rallies.BUT your much
more strategic in your play because of your great all round game which is more solid than his. Sure it is . Nice to watch..

I always am confident of your abilities. Cool net play, great slicing, you do it
so much better than anyone..All that classic shot making..
More than anything else your emotions in flux was in many ways
a driver to the perfect game you were striving to achieve in the match
against Ascione. Very moving and only the creed of true champions
transcend the immediate and temporary to reach a satisfying conclusion..
Well done!!! Classic display of bringing things to the brink that only comes
with the courage of a Hero!!

Great!!!!

And those Aces.. wow wow.. Keep them rolling!!!

Just take all your chances Marat..RELAX AND ENJOY A GREAT MATCH!!

Hope you enjoy a good rest and eat well Tuesday!!!

All the best !!!!!!
