Marat is pretty witty during his interviews. That is so adorable how he protects his sister. I myself have a younger sis that I look after so I understand that. I didn't know he was considering going to college in the States at one point, that was interesting to hear. Also, it is good to hear that he appears to have a positive outlook on things and I hope he is not just saying that but really believes it. The google comments were hilarious.

Ismail, you have to stay upbeat. You are going to see Marat in a couple of weeks and cheer for him so you need to bring him positive vibes.

I just could not bring myself to view the video clips after i saw Webbys statement about how
the media people were trying to bid him goodbye. Guess am feeling a bit down these days
just thinking how we gonna miss Marat next year with no tournaments to look forward
to . At the same time i respect Marats wishes that his tennis career is coming to a close.
Sure as day i am looking forward to meet Marat in Bangkok - it will be wonderful and just
trying to pack my bags for the trip to Bangkok. Long time since i did any travelling and i take
my time packing cos i am prone to be forgetful and last time i forgot to take my camera...
Normally i take one week to pack LOL. drawing a checklist and seeing i bring enuf things.

I read and re read his many interviews from long ago and its very unique each one
of them since the first ones. We have collected them all in a nice leather bround folder
and its in our library. From time to time its updated... And time goes by..

I wonder if its allowed but i'd love somehow to get some more video interviews of
this great man, I only really became a fan after my father introduced us if thats the
right wording his 72 and a great tennis fan!!!
Can sameone also tell me anything about SHARING A LAUGH WITH MARAT SAFIN dvd,
how did this came about and is it right and ok to buy this??? What does the great man think about this, why did he do it????
Yes i am behind everyone else, but i travel alot and miss so much....

During the "Russian Cup" Awards, Marat was awarded the "Award for Contribution to the Development of International and Russian Tennis". Here are a couple of videos:

1st Video showed highlights of Marat’s career. N. Myskina started with “This is a sportsman who always gathered full stadiums around the world.”
Marat was 17 yrs. Old & #116 in a world when he beat Agassi in a 1st round, and then Cuerten in a 2nd, he got to a 4th round in that tournament, and became #68.
Then, of course, commentator of the video talked about Marat beating Sampras in 2000 in USO, and how Marat was not ready to understand that win, that’s why Marat was so determined to win another GS, which he did in 2005 in AO.
“Thanks to Marat’s game style & sense of humor made him a favourite in many countries, and he was forgiven everything on court – from breaking racquets to pulling his shorts down..Marat Safin never wanted to be someone else – he always wanted to be himself.”
Marat said thanks to everyone who took part (any, even minimal) in his career – his mom & dad, his many coaches. Also, to Russian Sport Federation for making Tennis popular in Russia, for bringing it “from behind to the front”.
He was also thanking Russian Soccer clubs – Spartak, CSKA, Dinamo, for being where they are, and raising good soccer players. It was so funny when he kept referring to soccer, and everyone in audience would start laughing, and he said couple of times: “Hold on, hold on, I’m not finished…” with some Russian slang

At Post-Awards interview he said that 12 years is normal for sport career, and that he looks at it as one stage of his life. He said: “I’m thankful that people liked me, liked my game. The 2nd half of my career was not that good, and even then, people kept watching my matches, and found them interesting. I want to thank all who supported me till the end, even though I did not play well. Support of my fans – to me, it’s the most rewarding thing that every sportsman wants.”
Then, he was asked about his wishes for Dinara, and he wished her health & luck. He said that hard work is good, but if you don’t have health & luck, it’s hard to achieve something..
