congratulations to Mr Del Potro

But still i find him lacking on an all round game. Cant volley very well

and his advantage is his booming serve.

I watched the final and the commentators were
recalling the splendid play of Our Marat when he won
his Grand Slam in 2000.

They were making huge comments about
how utterly splendid Marat was...

Both winning when they were 20

Obviously, I thought about that instantly.

Yet, it's clear Marat was a more complete player technically. But I don't think he compares to Del Potro as far as resilience goes. Twelve wins from one set down this year, it's quite something.

i think for us the Marat Safin's fans...Del Potro could be the new Marat Safin!! they have the same style(not the same ''attitude'' unfortunately for us...),and i think del potro only needs to work his volleys, his fitness and little his backhand...to be exactly a Safin!
i go grazy with his huge groundstrokes which are remind me the beast from Russia...
i found my new favorite player now that Marat retires...

Consider the time when Marat was twenty and around that
age. He had a glorious spell with 15 titles...

Time takes something away from us and gives us other things as well....

I also don't think Del Potro should be compared to Marat - even though there are some similarities. Character-wise however, they are not that similar. I wouldn't say JMDP has the same presence on court - or off it, but that's just natural.

Del Potro will be Del Potro, he will (hopefully) carve his own name in tennis. He has already started. And Marat Safin continues to be Marat Safin. Different people with different roads to travel and different successes to achieve. Comparing them makes no sense, in my view.

Unfortunately, I never warmed up to Del Potro after seeing him in DC last year - didn't like the way he acted...And, about his game - yes, big serve, super huge forehand, but I could never enjoy his matches..
Roger is a different story - even though he lost (90% because of his bad serve), he had great shots & approaches & game plan - that's what I value the most in a game & that's why I love watching Marat, Roger, Haas, F. Lopez...!
And that Roger's shot between the legs in a match against Djokovic? My god, it was a winner! :)

"A Tennis Star Who Hates Tennis?"

For an insight or two into the life and passion of Andre Agassi, "widely considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time," here's an excerpt from his book titled Open:
