Dima won 6:2 in a 5th! Great job, Dima - I could see he was getting a bit nervous, I don't think he ever came back from 2 sets down to win the match, but, like Marat last year against Berdych - for Russia, he did !

Russia is through to the Qtr-Final !!

Picture found on Marat le Tsar.
Apparently it was taken today before the singles' matches.

Marat said in an intreview recently that he is not doing any conditioning. I wonder how he will look/run by the end of the year.

I hope its not the case that Marat isn't doing any conditioning, because he needs to be in very good condition if he wants to do well this year in tournaments and have a successful year.

Here's what he said in his post-match interview (Dubai, posted on this board)

MARAT SAFIN: No, I'm motivated. I'm just not working out. And I'm trying to keep my body in shape. Looking forward for some good results throughout the year.

I think keeping one's body in shape and working out go together, especially for a pro tennis player.

So, Russia will play Israel in July, and we will have to travel again - I hope the situation in Israel is stable.
I can't forget how our girls played there - fans were pretty loud, and disrespectful so that director & captain of Israel team had to apologize to Tarpishev after that tie...

:D  Congrats to the team to go 1/4 final  8)
Again I missed the match.  Yesterday while I was watching Mitya in 1st set ....Mitya just lost 1st service game. Romania lead 2-1 in first set. Then the internet connection was fell all night!!!!...I was sooooo disappointed cuz I was waiting a hold day to see the match.  So this mornig I was looking forward to check sport news on tv when I saw "Dmitry Tursunov help Russia to win over Romania 4-1" I was jumping & dancing & piercing around in front of TV ......

Yesssssss I'm so happy wiht them....I knew like all you guys  ....From the news it said Isarael is the next round with Russia & it the 1st time for them to 1/4 final.....

Natasah said Russia have to go to Isarael.......  Yea it remind me to last year when our girls went there in Fed cup.Dinara won 1st set 6-0 but she lost in next 2 sets with very lounder homecrowd.  Hopefully it will never happen like that again.....& Boys can handle it ....GOOD LUCK for next

Both Mitya & Gabashvili play pretty perfect ^_^ Especially Mitya coz he could come back to win in last 3 set......

Some pics from yesterday

Mitya said
“I was making far too many errors in the first two sets,” Tursunov told reporters. “But after falling two sets behind I was able to calm myself down and as a result started playing much better. In the fifth set I saw that he was tired so I tried to put more pressure on him and it worked.”

Uncle Tarpi said 8)
Russia captain Shamil Tarpishchev said: “A lot of people kept calling us big favourites against this Romanian team but I knew it wouldn’t be easy. Even after we won both singles rubbers on Friday I said the tie is not over just yet. I guess, some of our guys just didn’t listen.

“Of course, I would have liked to finish it on Saturday so I wouldn’t have to sweat it out on the bench today,” added Tarpishchev, who celebrated his 61st birthday on Saturday.

“But I’ll take it. In the end, Tursunov proved me right.”

All from yahoosport

**Alex thanks for pic^_^ love to see Marat in any action ^_^
