Thanks for great pictures, Alex !
Marat looks so good - freshly shaved & so young! I can't believe how year after year he looks better & better :)

Thanks for the article, Webby!

Well, I don't know how to comment his comments about Israel team getting to Qtrs - could be the translation, and Marat meant it in just a commentary way, not being offensive, or maybe he just spoke his mind :)

So, Marat is called for doubles & singles on Sunday ? - why not on Friday?
I guess we will find out soon..

Tarpishev said that Marat is not doing well in single tournaments because of lack of motivation (Marat's decision to retire), but Tarpi also said that he & Marat agreed that Marat will play for the Russian team in Davis Cup till the end, and that Marat will play good & fight !

I have no doubt about it - Marat will fight!

I like what Marat said: "It doesn't really matter that I haven't done very well recently, I'm ready for the tie and I'm feeling confident."

I'm sure he will fight for this. I would think that the Davis Cup
would be very important to him since it's his last year.

He does look great. The freshly shaven look makes him look so young. :)

Well, just as mentioned in an article, Marat is not playing singles, not only Friday, but Sunday as well..

BUT, we all know Tarpishev :) he always has something behind his sleeve..:)

I sure wished he had more confidence in Marat to put him in singles, but maybe it's better that Marat starts with doubles 1st, then see..

Friday:
Andreev vs Levy
Youzhny vs Sela

Saturday:
Marat/Kunitsyn vs Erlich/Ram

Sunday:
Youzhny vs Levy
Andreev vs Sela

Good luck to our guys!

from championat.ru

Kamelzon (coach of Russia and Ukraine):

"We are very good team, we go to breakfasts, lunches & diners together, following our tradition, already played soccer, this time on sand. Climate in a team is very pleasant. Safin is the core of the team. He is acting very wise, that's why it's very nice, soft, and sometimes funny atmosphere around him. Everyone treats Marat with great respect, and at the same time, nobody feels any pressure from his authority or anything of that nature..."

I don't know why I wanted to translate that piece - it always makes me proud to be Marat's fan when I hear comments like that :)

Thank you for posting the link, Alex!

So nice to see Marat smiling :)

Yeah, Marat said that he doesn't feel like he is in great shape to play singles..he knows better !
Though I feel like maybe he is nervous, maybe a little bit, & wants to do well for the team..

Youzhny lost to Sela - double ouch..:(

Wow - does anyone know if Russia ever won a tie from 0:2 down?

Well, I understand the home crowd & all - but, my god - Misha & Igor are not new for Davis Cup - especially Igor had an experience of playing in Chillie with Marat - they both played singles & doubles - that crowd was no better! But, they won !!

I know someone think it's not fair to say, but I gotta - Marat, even if he lost a match in Davis Cup:
First - he never lost an opening match or an important one having a pressure on, and second, he would not have lost like this!
Especially disappointed in Misha - to lose two sets 1:6, 0:6

Pressure on Marat now - it will be even tougher than Marat thought, don't know, but I sure hope that Marat & Kunitsyn can put up a fight tomorrow!

"Russia, champion in 2002 and '06 will need to come back from 0-2 down for the first time since its 1995 semi-final victory over Germany if it is to progress."

And Ram is a very good doubles player.

thanks, fcpolifan - so it did happen :)

Yes, both Israeli guys are very good double players.

I can see Marat/Igor winning if:

Marat has a superb serve
Erlich/Ram can't find their game together because they haven't played for almost 2 years
Marat really really wants to win this point for Russia & himself !

My god, I don't even want to think that this doubles match could be Marat's last match in Davis Cup ! :(

Hope very much for the best for the Russian team!!!

Still there are chances for winning. Gravely dissapointed with the lost of the first two
singles!! Dont think Marat would have let
it go like that if he was playing..

Without being disrespectful i really
think it would be a great idea for
Marat to take on one
of the Israeli players on the last
day singles matches!! :)

It seems to me the beating Igor Andreev
and Mikhail Youzhny had to undergo would
put them in no good condition for
the rest of the tie...
