Marat went into the second set with some
change of tactics taking the ball early and some
remarkable returns on a full stretch so many times
The tie break was close and was 6-6 at one point!!
Flashes of Marats briliance with especially
one back hand drive at 3-3 second set!!
Well it was an effort of a 29 year old against
a 23 year old and the 23 year old was given
something to think about!!!
Marat forever!!!!
With great affection from your fan here!!

I can not not feel sad when every tournament this years feels to have been a show up, play one match, leave kind of tournament.
Marat tried his best, as far as this year's standards go, but it wasn't enough.

When leaving the court MArat was interviewed and he said it was tough coming from Israel after playing on hardcourt indoors to adjust to clay, specially when u are playing a clay specialist. HE said he had is chances during the match, but couldn't take them and even said he choked in the TB. HE was not sad, he kind of is accepting that's life and sometimes u don't get what you want. HE did say he loves Bastad and will definitely come back to play the veterans tour
At one point during the match the linesman called a FH down the line of Marat as out and, then Almagro and LArs Graff both acepted it was in and the point was replaid. MArat turned to the tribune where his manager was and said in english (doesn't Allon speak russian, Webby?) "why did she had to call the ball out?!" I was sitting right next to the ball bays, second row, and replied to him "well, shit happens!" That's one of the things that makes him unique, with him you feel part of the match

Thanks Alex for the report.
No Allon doesn't speak Russian - Amit does.
Yes it was annoying about that point - although Almagro gave it , they had to replay and Marat lost the point where as it should have been a clear winner. Like the point Marat gave - that was given as a winner. Marat always the generous one!
At times Marat's footwork was not good and with a bit more enterprise and push Marat could have won but it wasn't meant to be. Another shrug of the shoulders and a few more days enjoying the surroundings in Bastad and then off to LA another of his favourite places.

yes, even in practice his movement seemed off and he complained at one point to Gabashvili's coach smth about not being able to move well, feeling heavy, slugish or smth. I couldnt hear the exact words, but the ohter guy seemed surprised because he noticed MArat had lost weight.

Thanks for your report, Alex !
I watched the 2nd set on channelsurfing.net
I liked what I saw, but I did see that Marat was not moving as well as he could..
His serve was good, and saved him from being a break down in a 2nd set, and he had good shots, but many UE too.
But, I was just happy to watch him play - for me, it's not about him winning anymore, though, of course I would be happy if he won, but about watching him play:
his backhand, forehand, shake of his head, shrugging his shoulders - just watch him one more match & one more, and one more...
And, how he pointed his finger at someone in his box when he saved a match point! - reminded me of last year Wimbledon
I liked how relaxed he spoke giving interview, unfortunately, the camera did not get close enough to see Marat's face, and the 'stupid' Order of Play screen was covering him..
But, he was gracious, as always
